If you run a café, hotel, office, or Airbnb, you have probably been asked for the WiFi password dozens of times a day. A WiFi QR code solves this completely. Guests scan the code and connect automatically — no typing, no errors, no interruptions.
How WiFi QR Codes Work
A WiFi QR code encodes your network name (SSID), password, and encryption type (WPA/WPA2 or WEP) into a special format that phones recognise automatically. When someone scans the code, their phone asks if they want to join the network — one tap and they are connected.
This works natively on:
- iPhone running iOS 11 or later (2017 onward)
- Android running Android 10 or later, and most earlier Android phones via Google Lens
How to Create a WiFi QR Code for Free
- Go to QR Stats and choose the WiFi QR type.
- Enter your WiFi network name (SSID) and password exactly as they appear (case-sensitive).
- Select your security type: WPA/WPA2 (most common), WEP, or None (open network).
- Optionally customise the design — try the built-in WiFi template with "FREE WIFI" frame text.
- Download the QR code as a PNG and print it for your space.
Where to Display Your WiFi QR Code
- Cafés and restaurants: Table stands, counter top, menu back page.
- Hotels: In-room information card, reception desk, near the TV.
- Offices: Reception area, meeting rooms, kitchen.
- Airbnb / holiday rentals: Welcome folder, fridge magnet, near the router.
- Retail stores: Checkout counter to keep customers engaged while they wait.
Is It Safe to Share Your WiFi Password via QR Code?
Yes. The QR code only shares your WiFi credentials with people who physically scan it in your space — the same people you would tell the password to anyway. The password is embedded in the QR code itself and is not sent to any server. For extra security, use a dedicated guest network with a separate password, and put that password in the QR code rather than your main network password.
Printing Tips for WiFi QR Codes
WiFi QR codes should be printed clearly and laminated if possible — they will be scanned repeatedly. A minimum print size of 5cm × 5cm is recommended for comfortable scanning from a distance of 30cm or more. Pair the QR code with clear text: "Scan to connect to WiFi" or display the network name below the code.
